One continuous line across nearly three decades: from a bonneted truck on the other side of the world to the one unveiled on 25 July.
In 1998 IVECO in Australia developed the PowerStar: a heavy bonneted truck built to take on the American giants. Made for the road trains of the outback, with the comfort of a European cab and the power of American engines such as Detroit Diesel, Caterpillar and Cummins. The heaviest variant, the 7800, hauled train weights of up to 140 tonnes.
In 2006, at IVECO partner CFG Bedrijfswagens, the idea arose to combine the driveline of the Ulm-built Stralis with the body of the Melbourne-built PowerStar. The result, the STRATOR bonneted truck, soon became a household name in the European transport sector.
The PowerStar proved its toughness in the world's hardest rally. From 2011 Team De Rooy built a Dakar truck based on the PowerStar; in 2012 Gerard de Rooy won the Dakar with it in the truck class, and again in 2016. No better test for a nose.
In 2019 IVECO introduced an all-new flagship: the S-Way. The S-Way raises design, comfort, finish and driveline to a new level, and with it the possibilities for a new STRATOR with a new face.
In 2020 the fiftieth first-generation STRATOR was built, for the 50th anniversary of G&B Finch in Great Britain. A right-hand drive 6×4 heavy haulage variant with a GCW of 120 tonnes, the last example of this generation.
Exactly 20 years after the first STRATOR, model year 2026 appears at the Truckstar Festival in Assen. A crisp evolution of the timeless presence that defined the first generation of STRATOR bonneted trucks. STRATOR, how trucks are meant to be!
